When we work hard during the week, weekend countdowns can begin as early as Monday morning. As soon as we say goodbye to one weekend, we anticipate the next. Doesn't it seem like the week goes by slow while the weekends are over in a blink of an eye? We want to spend our weekend time relaxing and rejuvenating for another week of hard work. So how can we fully take advantage of our time off?
If you're someone who is always looking for ways to be successful, my guess is you don't spend your weekend laying around the house. But keeping yourself busy from Friday-Sunday night is not the most beneficial thing you can do to maintain success.
Tim Ferris, an expert on time management, reminds us: “Focus on being productive instead of busy.”
Planning your weekends in advance will make the most use of your time. If you wait until Friday night to plan, you may watch the weekend pass you by as you decide what to do with it.
Without proper planning, some of our work can easily carry over into the weekend. The line between work and personal life can be blurry, and we don't want to compromise on either side. Unplugging from work or technology is difficult because setting boundaries makes us fearful of falling behind in our business. We also don't want to miss out on the opportunity to do activities that we don't have time to do during the week! We can feel pulled in multiple directions with not enough time.
So how can we make the best use of our time and maintain success?
But I challenge you to go a step further. When you're spending time with family, be intentional with that time! Be fully present and do an activity that provides a learning experience for everyone involved. When you volunteer your time, teach a new skill to those you are serving or make sure to learn something new. If a networking opportunity presents itself, take advantage, but don't put too much pressure on yourself. And when you meditate, focus on your future and how you want to grow.
Remember, success is something that must be pursued every day of the week. Just try to take it easy on yourself a couple of those days!
