5 Tips To Develop Wisdom

Wisdom is like a right of passage. To be wise is to hit the highest level of quality experience, knowledge, and judgment. Wisdom forms a solid foundation that goes beyond intelligence. It’s being honest about who you are and taking the time to develop yourself to be more like Christ.

James 3:13-18 speaks on wisdom and says: “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

If you are seeking to grow in wisdom, here are five tips:

1. Stand with integrity

Sometimes life isn’t pretty. It comes with the good, the bad, and the ugly. But people with integrity accept themselves as whole people and are always striving to live for truth. These people stand out because of what they stand for.

2. Walk in humility

Pride is a killer of wisdom. Those who say they are wise are typically just the opposite. The wise are humble servants. They don’t realize the wisdom they have because they are too busy looking at others as more important than themselves.

3. Escape selfishness

Just as the wise walk in humility, they also escape from selfish desires. Though selfishness is a natural part of this broken world, the wise are aware of those desires and flee from their trap.

4. Harvest peace

As the verse above states, the peacemakers harvest righteousness. Growth cannot happen from constant chaos. Though storms will come, the wise find the small bits of peace within the storm, and from there is where they harvest good fruit.

5. Speak truth with grace and love

Speaking truth is hard in a tolerant world, but when you think of someone who is wise, this person usually is the one people go to for advice. Wise people speak truth with love and grace often stirring up conviction and changing lives.

Think of someone you know who is wise and thank him/her for impacting your life!
