5 Words Of Affirmation Everyone Needs To Hear

Can you remember a time when someone said something profound to you?

Something that changed the course of your day, your mind, your mood?

Maybe even your life?

Is there something you need to hear today? Is it possible that your dad, your best friend, or the stranger on the street needs to hear it too? It’s possible someone is waiting on you. Here are

5 Words of Affirmation Everyone Needs to Hear.

1. You Can Do This.

As a little girl, one of my favorite books was “The Little Engine that Could.” I knew it by heart and would whisper “I think I can, I think I can,” as my Mom read. That Little Engine was my friend and my mentor. As a single adult, living far from my family, I often repeat His words to myself.

I think I can, I think I can.

I’m sure many of you can identify.

No matter how strong we are, or how good we are at encouraging, motivating and disciplining ourselves, sometimes we need to hear “You can do this!” from someone else.

2. Who You Are Matters.

Do you ever feel invisible? Like if you were to vanish right now, no one would miss you. They might miss the coffee you bring, the clothes you iron, the meals you cook, your money, yet how many of us have wondered, would they really miss me?

As a society, we’re busy. We’re on a time crunch, on an agenda, we are on a mission. I get this! Our days are supposed to be full of purpose. But there is a balance.

We can get to know the person’s name at the dry cleaner, the grocery. We can remember, while we are unhappily waiting for the customer service representative, that the person on the other line is a person. We can tell them to have a nice day, regardless of whether or not they fix our problem.

Everyone needs to know they are appreciated. And everyone includes you.

You are valued. You are loved. You matter.

3. It’s Not Your Fault.

One of the most powerful scenes in “Good Will Hunting,” is where Robin Williams character tells Will (Matt Damon) that it is not his fault. Over and over he repeats, “It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault; it’s not your fault.” The scene ends with Will crying – a major breakthrough.

The condemnation, the beatings we give ourselves due to the pain others have caused, is never ending – until we end it.

We can’t control what anyone does- only our response to it. And without counseling, and doing the work it takes to overcome, we don’t know how to respond correctly.

We need to be told, and we need to believe—it’s not our fault.

Of course, there are many things in life that are absolutely our fault. But those aren’t the things we’re talking about right now.

We can’t do anything about what has been done to us, but we can change what it does through us.

4. You Are Beautiful.

The mirror may not always tell someone this – but we can. We can climb out of society’s trap. We can cultivate the art of seeing beneath the surface.

Beauty lies in our soul. It speaks through our actions. It is an idea. A process. It is a miracle.

We are all capable of being beautiful. But sometimes, it needs to be spoken, before it can manifest.

5. You Are Smart!

Countless studies show that regardless of their IQ, children score higher on tests if they’re told how smart they are before they begin. Every psychologist will tell you in one way or another, that how you think affects how you act.

for as a man thinks in is heart, so is he.

What are you saying to your child, your spouse, to the person on the subway? What are you saying to yourself? Words are energy, and once out of our mouth, they have a life of their own. They either build people up, or tear them apart.

You are brilliant, you are beautiful. You can overcome anything. You are a world shaker and a history maker.

Deposit something wonderful into someone’s life today.
