How To Look Past Our Differences And Celebrate Humanity

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” –Nelson Mandela

Many times we identify ourselves by our country or race. We look at other people and groups pointing out differences that make us feel superior. Those who are different are left on the outside while we sit comfortably on the inside with the people we understand the best.

It’s easy to do this. I get caught up in even the smallest differences. Let’s face it, there are differences, even in the same country and race. But if we spend our whole lives pointing out everyone’s differences, and rating each one as good or bad, we miss out on all the ways we can connect – all the ways we are similar.

The video below is a great reminder that even if we hesitate to unite our hearts and minds, we are already united by our DNA. So many variations run through our veins, forming our humanity, and giving us life. We all have histories we will never know, but they make up who we are today. We must consider everyone around us as our brothers and sisters. In the end, we are family.

The video below helps us see that our country, skin color, and immediate families aren’t giving us the full picture of our stories. There is so much more we may never know. Stories that unite us together and change what we view as “differences” into what we view as part of our own identities.

Take a look!

“We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to ONE HUMAN RACE.”
