All You Need To Know About Gratitude

When I was young, I used to think that being grateful was simply using proper manners. I believed that saying “thank you” made me a thankful and kind person. But I soon realized as I grew, even polite people were not always gracious. Gratitude is not just found from words; it's found within the heart.

I also learned how much control we have over gratitude! Unfortunately, gratitude doesn't always come naturally — that's why we must choose and practice gratitude. Of course, we want to positively impact others with a gracious attitude, but you may be asking yourself, how does gratitude influence our personal lives? Well, gratitude is proven to make people happier, less anxious, and more energized. Maybe because grateful people are more forgiving, confident, and charitable!

“Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but an all-the-time gratitude, the kind where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience to feel grateful.” –Marelisa Fabrega

There are many ways to bring gratitude into our experiences. We can start as soon as our day begins!

Wake up each morning and set an intention to be thankful throughout the day. Whenever you find yourself complaining or focusing on the negative, remind yourself of life's goodness and count your blessings. It's easier said than done, but the more you do it, the more this will become a habit. Create a gratitude journal, send a “thank you” note to a friend, or spend the first five to ten minutes of your mealtime sharing words of “thanks” with your family or friends.

We created a gratitude graphic below for this month and hopefully long after. Read through it and share with a loved one so together you can navigate an attitude of gratitude this season.

“Never let a day pass without looking for the good, feeling the good within you, praising, appreciating, blessing, and being grateful. Make it your life commitment, and you will stand in utter awe of what happens in your life.” –Rhonda Byrne

thank you for my pain it reminds me i am alive and it can only get better, thank you for my dreams and hopes, thank you for my gift of life, thank you for my awesome future….what ever that may be..

  2. I try everyday to be thankful for the things in life we take for granted… sunrises, family, health, a paycheck, food on the table and for being a child of God.

  3. I love number 2 on the 5 ways to practice gratitude. Gratitude journals are popular. And it’s a good idea to write thank-you notes to those people we write of in in the journal.

  4. I started a blog and Instagram to remind myself to think about the everyday things that bring me joy. Instagrsam is my visual gratitude journal. Both of these outlets provide a space for me to reflect on the things that bring joy but also I hope by sharing them I can help others find joy too.

  5. This year I am writing one thank you not a day! While this commitment has certainly been challenging, it’s also become my favorite part of each morning. There’s just something about starting the day by acknowledging my blessings. Today is number 179!!!

  6. I am grateful for my body, my health, my senses. I can see all around me and close my eyes but still feel the life around me. I can differentiate the taste of the various things I put in my mouth. I can smell the air, roses and all the different perfumes and odours of the environment. I can feel the cold air and heat of the sun. I am grateful for my body’s waste disposal system that can discard what is harmful and not required for use.

I am most grateful for the being alive and experiencing the universe and what it has to offer me in all its beauty and glory.

I am grateful for my job, my bank balance, my house, my car, my family and my neighbour.
