Most of us have had an experience where we work really hard at something and the same thing we finally earn is handed to someone who may not have fought as hard. Jealousy creeps in and wants to control our hearts.
Do we let it?
Comedian Chelsea Handler recently made a serious video about a struggle she had in her past and the lesson she learned.
A friend of hers received an opportunity early in her career that Handler had wanted. The friend had put in far less time and effort and received the opportunity with ease. Immediate feelings of hurt and jealousy started to take over Handler, so she told her sister about her feelings right away. Her sister replied with the following advice:
1. You can feel jealous, but don't act on jealousy.
2. What you have to offer is different.
3. There's a place for you.
These three reminders have stuck with Handler and helped her to realize there is room for everyone! I believe we can ALL use this reminder.
Are you holding onto jealousy because you feel entitled? Maybe you are worried that you missed your chance or you feel as though you will never arrive where you want to be.
I want to challenge you to cheer on the people around you who are receiving success or living the life you want. Your life may look different, but there is still room for you where you want to be.
If all the candles of our lives are lit, the candles don't take away from each other, they just make the room brighter.
Instead of viewing life as a competition–crawling over each other to get to the top–we must come together and use the power of our lights for good.
Don't let jealousy stand in the way.
Remember: “Never ever blow out someone else's candle to make yours brighter.”
